Vietnam Customs
Vietnam Customs — the General Department of Vietnam Customs (GDVC) — is Vietnam's customs authority, responsible for clearing imports and exports, collecting customs duties and import VAT, and enforcing trade, licensing and origin controls. It administers Vietnam's tariff and the many free-trade agreements Vietnam has signed (including the CPTPP, EVFTA and RCEP), which make correct origin determination highly valuable.
Clearance is largely automated through the VNACCS/VCIS system, into which importers and brokers file declarations, with risk-based channelling. Vietnam has become one of Asia's fastest-growing manufacturing and export hubs (electronics, textiles, footwear), so efficient customs clearance and duty/origin management are central to its trade competitiveness, supported by export-processing zones, bonded warehouses and duty-relief schemes. For anyone importing into or exporting from Vietnam, understanding Vietnam Customs, VNACCS and the FTA origin rules is essential to clearance and to minimising duty. It governs Vietnam's borders and its fast-expanding trade.
Vietnam Customs governs the trade of one of Asia's fastest-growing manufacturing hubs — and with Vietnam's many FTAs (CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP), correct origin management is worth real duty savings. Understanding the GDVC, the VNACCS clearance system and the FTA origin rules is fundamental to importing into or exporting from Vietnam.
What system does Vietnam use for clearance?
VNACCS/VCIS, an automated customs clearance system into which declarations are filed with risk-based channelling.
Why does origin matter for Vietnam?
Vietnam has many free-trade agreements (CPTPP, EVFTA, RCEP), so goods qualifying under their rules of origin can gain preferential or zero duty.
