TANCIS (Tanzania Customs System)
TANCIS (the Tanzania Customs Integrated System) is Tanzania's electronic customs clearance platform, through which import, export and transit declarations are lodged and processed by Tanzania Customs (TRA). It enabled Tanzania to move to largely paperless, automated clearance with risk-based inspection.
Through TANCIS, importers, exporters and clearing agents submit declarations, duties and taxes are assessed under the EAC common tariff, and goods are released subject to risk-based controls. Because Dar es Salaam is a major transit gateway for landlocked neighbours, TANCIS handles a large volume of transit and bond movements along the Central Corridor.
