SONCAP
SONCAP is Nigeria's mandatory pre-export conformity programme, run by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), covering regulated products imported into the country. Goods on the regulated list must be verified against the applicable Nigerian Industrial Standards before shipment, through an appointed agency.
The flow has two documents: a Product Certificate (PC) confirming the product model meets the standards, and the SONCAP Certificate (SC) — Nigeria's Certificate of Conformity — issued per shipment. The SONCAP Certificate is required to clear the goods and to close the Form M, Nigeria's import declaration. Without it, regulated goods cannot legally enter Nigeria.
SONCAP is the gate for regulated imports into Nigeria — no SONCAP Certificate, no clearance, and no way to close the Form M. Because it is product- and shipment-specific and tied to the import declaration, getting the PC and SC right ahead of shipment is what keeps a Nigerian import moving.
