Customs & Compliance 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia

Saudi Special Economic Zone (SEZ)

Special Economic Zone

A Saudi Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is a designated area offering customs, tax and regulatory incentives to attract investment in logistics, manufacturing and services. Launched under Vision 2030, the first zones include King Abdullah Economic City, Jazan, Ras Al-Khair and a Cloud Computing SEZ, each with its own focus and benefits.

SEZs typically offer advantages such as reduced or deferred customs duty, competitive tax rates, streamlined procedures and flexible ownership rules. For customs purposes, goods within an SEZ enjoy the zone's benefits; moving them into the domestic market triggers normal duty and VAT — so the zone boundary is a planning point for supply chains based in the Kingdom.

Why it matters

Saudi Arabia's SEZs are a core Vision 2030 lever to build a regional logistics and manufacturing base — and they change the duty, tax and ownership calculus for companies setting up in the Kingdom. Knowing which zone fits an operation, and what crossing its boundary costs, is central to structuring Saudi supply chains.
