KEBS
KEBS (Kenya Bureau of Standards) is Kenya's national standards body, responsible for developing standards and enforcing product quality on goods entering and sold in the country. For imports, KEBS operates a Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) programme: regulated goods must be verified against the applicable Kenyan standards before shipment and a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) obtained to clear customs.
KEBS also administers the Import Standardization Mark (ISM), a mark applied to imported products so that regulated goods in the market can be identified as having passed conformity assessment. Goods arriving without the required CoC face destination inspection, penalties or rejection — making the pre-export step through a KEBS-appointed agency the practical gate for the Kenyan market.
KEBS is the gate for regulated imports into Kenya — its PVoC and CoC decide whether goods clear cleanly or hit destination inspection and penalties. The Import Standardization Mark then identifies compliant imports in the market, so meeting KEBS requirements before shipment is what keeps Kenyan imports moving.
