Fumigation Certificate
A Fumigation Certificate is a document confirming that a shipment — its cargo, and often its wooden packaging or pallets — has been fumigated to kill pests such as insects and their larvae. It states the treatment used, the chemical and dosage, the date and the treated goods, and is issued by an accredited fumigation provider.
Many countries require fumigation and the certificate as a phytosanitary import condition, especially for agricultural goods, timber and any consignment on solid wood packaging (which must meet the ISPM 15 standard and carry its stamp). A missing or incorrect fumigation certificate can lead to the cargo being held, treated at the border, re-exported or destroyed — costly and delaying. Ensuring the right fumigation is done and documented in advance is an important part of preparing certain shipments for smooth customs and quarantine clearance.
Countries guard hard against importing pests, and a shipment on untreated wood packaging can be stopped, fumigated at the border, sent back or destroyed. The fumigation certificate is the proof that keeps agricultural and wood-packaged cargo moving through quarantine — a small document whose absence can strand a whole consignment.
