Route Optimization

Route Optimization is the use of algorithms and software to determine the most efficient routes for a fleet of vehicles to make its deliveries or collections. Far more than shortest-path mapping, it solves a complex problem — the vehicle routing problem — balancing many real-world constraints: delivery time windows, vehicle capacities, driver hours, traffic, service times, and multiple stops per route.

The goal is to minimise total distance, time and cost while meeting service commitments, which directly cuts fuel, vehicle and labour costs and emissions, and improves on-time delivery. Modern route optimization uses real-time data (traffic, new orders) for dynamic re-routing, and increasingly AI to handle scale and uncertainty.
