RoDTEP
RoDTEP (Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products) is an Indian export-incentive scheme that refunds the embedded central, state and local duties and taxes on exported goods that are not refunded through any other mechanism — for example fuel taxes, electricity duty and mandi tax embedded in the cost of production.
The benefit is credited as a percentage of the export value in the form of transferable e-scrips in the exporter's ICEGATE electronic credit ledger, which can be used to pay Basic Customs Duty or sold to other importers. RoDTEP replaced the earlier MEIS scheme and is WTO-compliant because it remits actual embedded taxes rather than granting a subsidy.
RoDTEP puts real money back in an exporter's hands by refunding taxes buried in the cost of making a product — taxes that would otherwise make Indian exports less competitive. Claiming it correctly on the Shipping Bill, and managing the resulting e-scrips, is a direct contributor to export margins.
What did RoDTEP replace?
It replaced the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), and is designed to be WTO-compliant by remitting embedded taxes rather than subsidising.
How is RoDTEP received?
As transferable e-scrips credited in the exporter's ICEGATE ledger, usable against customs duty or saleable to others.
