FSU

Freight Status Update Message

FSU is the IATA Cargo-IMP message that reports the status of an air shipment as it moves through the airport and the flight, using standard status codes: RCS (received from shipper), DEP (departed), ARR (arrived), RCF (received from flight), NFD (notified for delivery) and DLV (delivered), among others. The Cargo-XML equivalent is XFSU.

FSU is the air-cargo tracking message — the counterpart to the ocean world's IFTSTA. Forwarders and airlines exchange FSU events to drive shipment tracking, customer notifications, milestone-based billing and exception alerts when a shipment misses its planned connection.

Why it matters

FSU is what powers "where is my air shipment". Each status code is a checkpoint — received, departed, arrived, delivered — and the stream of FSU events is what lets a forwarder notify customers automatically and catch a missed connection the moment it happens rather than hours later.

Frequently asked
What do FSU status codes like RCS and DLV mean?

They are air-cargo milestones: RCS (received from shipper), DEP (departed), ARR (arrived), RCF (received from flight), NFD (notified for delivery) and DLV (delivered).

Is FSU the same as ocean IFTSTA?

They serve the same purpose — status/tracking — in different modes: FSU is the IATA air-cargo message, IFTSTA the UN/EDIFACT multimodal one.
