WHAT IT IS

What is ground handling software?

Ground handling software — also called GHA software or aviation cargo software — is the operating system for the people who physically accept, process and load air cargo at airport terminals. The core acceptance workflow has half a dozen tight requirements: ULD allocation and tracking, weight and balance validation against aircraft constraints, Dangerous Goods (DG) compliance per IATA DGR, Valuable Cargo Handling System (VCHS) for high-value shipments, AWB management, and airline-contract-aware billing.

Most GHA operations live with three or four systems today: one for acceptance, one for ULD, one for VCHS, one for billing. WHIZCargo replaces them with a single screen — and a single data model that flows from acceptance to airline invoice without re-keying.

WHO IT'S FOR

Built for everyone who handles air cargo on the ground.

Ground Handling Agents
Acceptance, ULD, weight & balance, DG and VCHS workflows for multiple airline contracts under one platform.
Airline Cargo Divisions
Self-handling airlines running their own ground operations — integrated with airline cargo systems and reservation networks.
Cargo Terminal Operators
Bonded warehousing, AWB-level inventory, customs integration, multi-tenant terminal operations.
Valuable Cargo Operators
VCHS workflows for precious metals, currency, jewellery, art and controlled substances. Chain-of-custody and dual-control sign-offs.
Pharma & Cold Chain (Air)
Temperature-controlled air cargo with continuous monitoring, deviation alerts and pharma-compliant handling.
Multi-airport GHAs
Multi-terminal, multi-airport operations under one tenant — centralised reporting, per-airport configuration.
GHA-SPECIFIC CAPABILITIES

The complete ground-handling workstation.

ACCEPTANCE + ULD + VCHS
Accept a valuable cargo shipment in one screen.

Airline cargo acceptance starts before the freighter closes — and ends only when ULD weight, DG status and VCHS screening are confirmed in one screen. WHIZCargo eliminates the three-system juggle most GHAs live with today.

  • Acceptance with live weight & balance validation
  • ULD allocation and real-time tracking
  • Dangerous Goods (IATA DGR) compliance workflow
  • Valuable Cargo Handling System (VCHS) for high-value shipments
  • Ground handling billing integrated with airline contracts

INTEGRATION

Integrates with the aviation cargo ecosystem.

Airlines, customs, ULD pools, security screening and customer freight forwarders — connected via the standards each requires.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Ground handling software, answered.

What is ground handling software?
Ground handling software (GHA software) is the operating system for cargo terminals, airlines and ground handling agents at airports. It runs the air cargo acceptance workflow — including ULD (Unit Load Device) management, weight & balance, dangerous goods (DG) compliance per IATA DGR, Valuable Cargo Handling System (VCHS) for high-value shipments, AWB management, manifesting, and ground handling billing integrated with airline contracts.
Who uses ground handling agent (GHA) software?
Ground handling agents serving airlines at cargo terminals, airline cargo divisions running their own handling operations, freight forwarders with air cargo handling operations, and cargo terminal operators. WHIZCargo's GHA module is in production at multiple Middle East cargo terminals.
What is VCHS in ground handling software?
VCHS — Valuable Cargo Handling System — is the secure-cargo workflow for high-value shipments (precious metals, currency, jewellery, art, controlled substances). It enforces chain-of-custody documentation, dual-control sign-offs, restricted-access acceptance, video evidence trail, sealed-container processing and audit-ready reporting. Required by airlines and insurers for valuable consignments.
How does the software handle ULD management?
WHIZCargo allocates ULDs (containers, pallets) per shipment, tracks ULD status (free, allocated, loaded, in-transit, returned, damaged), reconciles ULD movements between airlines and handlers, manages ULD pooling agreements, and integrates ULD weight into the weight & balance calculation for the aircraft.
Does it handle Dangerous Goods (DG) per IATA DGR?
Yes. The DG workflow enforces IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations — class identification, UN number, packing instruction, segregation rules, shipper's declaration, NOTOC preparation, and DG storage assignment. Built-in IATA DGR ruleset; updated annually.
How is ground handling billing managed?
Per-airline rate cards govern billing. WHIZCargo applies the right rates per AWB (acceptance fee, storage, X-ray, DG handling, VCHS handling, ULD movements, etc.), generates monthly billing per airline, and reconciles against airline payment terms.
How does AI improve ground handling?
AI optimises ULD build-up for maximum revenue density given commodity, weight, DG mix and onward connections. AI predicts weight discrepancies at acceptance before they cause re-handling. AI auto-classifies shipments for VCHS / DG / temperature-controlled handling from booking data.
