Bosun (Boatswain)
The Bosun (from Boatswain) is the senior rating in the deck department — the most experienced and senior of the non-officer deck crew, who supervises the able and ordinary seamen and directs the day-to-day work on deck. The Bosun is the vital link between the deck officers (particularly the Chief Officer) and the deck ratings.
