SaaS (Software as a Service)

SaaS (Software as a Service) is a model of delivering software in which an application is hosted in the cloud by a provider and accessed by users over the internet — typically through a web browser — on a subscription basis, rather than being bought, installed and run on the customer's own computers or servers. The provider handles the hosting, maintenance, security, updates and infrastructure.

SaaS has become the dominant way business software is delivered, including enterprise, logistics, ERP and freight platforms. Its advantages are lower upfront cost, rapid deployment, automatic updates, accessibility from anywhere, scalability, and freedom from managing IT infrastructure — the customer simply subscribes and uses the software, always on the latest version. For logistics businesses operating across multiple sites, ports and countries, SaaS means staff can access the same up-to-date system from any location, and the provider ensures it stays current and secure. SaaS is one of the three cloud service models (alongside IaaS and PaaS) and is closely tied to cloud computing. It represents the shift from owning software to consuming it as a service, and is central to how modern logistics and enterprise software — including connected, continuously improving platforms — is now provided and used.
