Portbase

Portbase is the national Port Community System (PCS) of the Dutch ports, principally Rotterdam and Amsterdam. It provides a shared platform through which the many parties in a port call — shipping lines, terminals, forwarders, shippers, road/rail/barge operators, and Dutch Customs — exchange the logistics and customs information needed to move cargo efficiently through the port.

Through Portbase, participants handle manifests, discharge and load lists, container release, customs status, pre-notifications, and cargo tracking electronically and in a standardised way, replacing fragmented bilateral messaging. This coordination speeds clearance and gate processes, reduces errors and waiting, and gives visibility across the community. Port Community Systems like Portbase (comparable to Singapore's PORTNET or others) are core digital infrastructure of modern ports. For forwarders and operators handling Dutch port cargo, connecting to and using Portbase is essential to smooth clearance and container flow. It is a key part of the digital backbone that makes Rotterdam and the Dutch gateway efficient.
