Half-Height Container

A Half-Height Container is a container built to roughly half the height of a standard container, designed for dense, heavy cargo that reaches its weight limit long before it fills a full-height box — such as ores, minerals, stone, steel, and heavy machinery parts. The low profile keeps the loaded centre of gravity down and makes top loading and discharge easy.

Often built as strong, open-top or half-height flat units, they are commonly used in mining, quarrying and heavy industry, where the cargo is so dense that a full container would exceed payload limits half-empty. Half-height containers can be stacked and handled like standard boxes, so they bring the convenience of containerisation to very heavy commodities that would otherwise move as bulk or break-bulk.
