Hai Phong Port (Vietnam)

Hai Phong is northern Vietnam's principal port and the main maritime gateway serving Hanoi and the industrial provinces of the north, where much of Vietnam's electronics and other manufacturing is concentrated. Historically a river-based port with depth limits, it has been expanded with the deep-water Lach Huyen terminal, allowing larger container ships to call directly.

Hai Phong handles the bulk of northern Vietnam's containerised trade and connects to China by road and rail as well as serving ocean routes. Together with Cai Mep in the south, Hai Phong anchors Vietnam's two-gateway port system — north and south — matching the geography of the country's manufacturing clusters. As northern Vietnam has grown as a manufacturing base (attracting major electronics investment), Hai Phong's capacity and deep-water development have become increasingly important.
