EPCIS
EPCIS (Electronic Product Code Information Services) is a GS1 standard for recording and sharing supply-chain events: it captures, for each step, the what (which objects, by their GS1 identifiers), where (the location, by GLN), when (the time) and why (the business step, such as shipped, received or packed).
By collecting these standardised events from every party and system, EPCIS builds an end-to-end record of where goods have been and what happened to them — the basis for genuine traceability, recall, provenance and visibility across organisations, rather than each company seeing only its own slice.
Real traceability needs a shared, standard way to record what happened to goods across many companies and systems. EPCIS provides it — the common event language that lets a product journey be reconstructed end to end for recall, provenance and visibility, which is increasingly a regulatory as well as a commercial demand.
