Double Door Container (Tunnel Container)
A Double Door Container — also called a tunnel container — is a standard container fitted with doors at both ends rather than at one end only. This lets cargo be loaded and unloaded from either side, giving quicker access, easier stuffing and stripping, and the ability to load from one end and discharge from the other.
The twin doors make double door containers useful where fast, flexible access speeds handling — for long items loaded through the "tunnel", for splitting a container into two separately accessed halves, or simply to avoid double-handling when the box is packed and unpacked at different points. They otherwise share the dimensions and rating of a standard dry container, so they slot into normal container operations while offering handling flexibility that a single-door box cannot.
Access is everything when stuffing and stripping a container under time pressure — doors at both ends can halve handling time and let cargo flow straight through. For operations that pack and unpack frequently, the tunnel container is a simple design tweak that removes a real bottleneck.
