DAP

Delivered at Place

DAP (Delivered at Place) is the Incoterm where the seller delivers the goods — bearing all cost and risk — to a named place in the buyer's country, ready for unloading. Delivery is complete when the goods are placed at the buyer's disposal on the arriving means of transport, ready to be unloaded; the buyer handles the unloading and the import clearance and duties.

DAP is one of the D-terms, where the seller carries the risk all the way to the destination (unlike the C-terms). It can be used with any mode of transport and is common for door-to-door deliveries where the buyer will clear customs on import.

Why it matters

DAP is the natural choice when the seller can control the whole journey but wants the buyer to handle import clearance and duty. The seller owns the transit risk to the destination — so a clear, agreed named place matters, because that point defines exactly where the seller's responsibility ends and the buyer's begins.
