Cloud Computing
Cloud Computing is the delivery of computing resources — servers, storage, databases, networking and software — on demand over the internet, from large data centres run by cloud providers, instead of an organisation owning and running its own hardware locally. Users access these resources as a scalable, pay-as-you-go service, scaling up or down as needed.
Cloud computing is delivered in models — Infrastructure (IaaS), Platform (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) — and in public, private and hybrid deployments. Its advantages are scalability, flexibility, lower upfront cost, accessibility from anywhere, and reduced IT maintenance. For logistics and enterprise software, the cloud means platforms (ERP, freight, tracking) can be delivered as accessible, scalable, always-updated services reachable from any location — well-suited to businesses operating across sites, ports and countries. The cloud also provides the storage and processing power for big-data analytics, machine learning and IoT data gathered from across the supply chain, and works with edge computing in a hybrid model (edge for local/real-time, cloud for heavy analytics and central data). Cloud computing is the foundational delivery model for modern software and data platforms, including connected, data-driven logistics systems. It underpins how enterprise and logistics software is increasingly built and consumed.
